Nerdy Girl Tea | Our Story

From 7 Blends to 150+—A Tea Journey Rooted in Medicine, Curiosity & Community

Hi there—welcome to the Nerdy Girl Tea Collection, a tea project born out of clinical care, shaped by curiosity, and fueled by the beautiful chaos of the community.

Our journey didn't begin with a grand vision for a tea company. It started with seven blends on a shelf in our herbal apothecary—a small lineup of teas that we genuinely enjoyed and often recommended to our patients. They were simple, cozy, hard to mess up, and easy to love.

We weren't tea sommeliers. We drank more coffee than tea. What we were—and still are—are seasoned practitioners of Classical Chinese Medicine, steeped in herbalism, acupuncture, and decades of experience in whole-person care.

But over time, something began to brew.

A Clinic Move, a Curious Community & an Unexpected Tea Adventure

In 2022, we relocated our clinic from Greenville, South Carolina, to Kalispell, Montana, settling right on Main Street in a bright, welcoming space filled with light and lined with glass apothecary jars. From the sidewalk, it was a bit of a mystery.

People would stop, peek in, and say:

"Ooh, a tea shop!"

"Look at all that tea!"

We couldn't blame them—it did look like a tea shop. And while most of those jars held Chinese herbs, we still had our original seven blends on the shelf.

After hearing it enough times, we said:

"Maybe we should get more tea…"

So we did.

We tasted. We explored. We asked questions.

What makes a white tea feel different from a green?

How much does steep time really matter?

Could we find blends that people in our new community were searching for?

Our shelves started to grow—not just from blending but from curating. We sought out flavors we loved, teas our patients craved, and sips that felt like something worth sharing.

Seven teas became thirty. Then fifty. Then seventy-five.

Now? Over 150 small-batch blends—and counting.

What began as a quiet offering in our clinic evolved into something more—a collection. One that invites connection. One that made people linger ask questions and walk through our doors not just for tea but for conversation.

The tea sparked interest. The interest sparked community.

And that community became the heart of it all.

Enter: Nerdy Girl Tea

Originally, our tea offerings lived quietly under the umbrella of our apothecary. But as the shelves filled and the curiosity grew, we knew this project had a voice—and a vibe—all its own.

Nerdy Girl Tea was born from that realization: a gentle rebrand that gave our tea its own identity and just the right amount of playful personality. It also became a quiet nod to Sara—Dr. James' life partner—whose love of books, passion for learning, and thoughtful, in-depth dives into the world of tea added real energy to this growing chapter.

During those early days, Sara's research, palate, and presence helped set the tone of what was becoming something more. While Sara is now pursuing her own path—working toward a doctorate as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a PhD in Rural and Indigenous Health—her influence remains a valued part of our story.

Our Roots

Behind the brand are Dr. Devynne and Dr. James, a father-daughter team and co-founders of Jing Shen Healing Arts and Ancient Ways Apothecary. With over a decade each in practice, we've dedicated our lives to bridging Classical Chinese Medicine with modern community care.

When we moved to Kalispell, Sara joined the team, and her presence—both professionally and personally—helped shape not just our clinic's next chapter but also the ethos of what Nerdy Girl Tea has become.

And yes—those seven original blends?

They're still here. Still bestsellers. It's still the heart of the shelf.

So What Is Nerdy Girl Tea?

It's a small-batch tea collection with clinical roots and community spirit.

It's where flavor lovers, wellness seekers, and curious sippers find a little everyday magic in a cup.

It's what happened when a clinic's tea shelf took on a life of its own.

And yes—we still love coffee, too.

We're still learning, still sipping, and still sharing what we discover—believing tea should be easy to enjoy, endlessly worth exploring and always rooted in care.
